Model Makers Exhibition 2005 - Hobart

The Society again participated in the Model Makers Exhibition held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, Hobart on 2 nd & 3 rd April this year.

The Exhibition is run in Hobart every 2 years and gives model makers of all persuasions, whether it be with cars, trains, boats or planes or whatever, to demonstrate their individual skills and provide a forum for likeminded people. All proceeds from the Exhibition go towards a designated charity.

Society members displayed their models for the public to see and were of great interest to both young and old. Many of the stationary engines were connected to compressed air and ran faultlessly for the duration of the Exhibition.

A portable 3” and 5” elevated track was erected providing an excellent opportunity for many members to show their locomotives in action. Normally our live steam locomotives are run outdoors and it was certainly a different experience to fire them up indoors in an air conditioned environment.

The next Exhibition is planned to be held in 2007 and it provides a wonderful opportunity to show our hobby to all. Our members had their hands full in explaining the intricate workings of the displayed models.

Please have a look at our Photos page to see the quality of the Society’s display.

Visit by the AMS Society

In April we were fortunate to have a visit by the Australian, Malaysian and Singaporean Society to our track site in Flagstaff Gully Road.

As well as enjoying the BBQ and fine, warm weather many visitors were treated to train rides behind our locomotives and were amazed at what they could do.

The visit was a great success for members of both Societies and it is hoped that another visit will be arranged again in the near future.

Although the HMSLS does not cater for public running, other community groups are most welcome to share our facilities and arrangements can be made through any of the Committee listed on the Contacts page.

Photos of the visit may also viewed on our Photo page.
